This is the recording of my debut performance as Vincent van No, effectively my debut performance in general, recorded on the 29th of June 2019 at The Audio Foundation in Auckland, New Zealand.

After living in Auckland since 2010 and ending a long-term relationship that lasted just over five years, I plunged into a major pit of depression, quit my full-time job, and moved back in with my parents for respite and recouping. Part of that recouping was figuring out what is important to me in my life and making a start on fostering and rekindling them, including but not limited to: my convictions, desires, ambitions, friendships, interests, passions, and identity.

Going on new medication made a huge boost to my overall mood but gave me the tendency to experience mania. Still, I seized the opportunity and harnessed its motivating powers to move back to Auckland to forge a new social life for myself. While I hadn't (and still haven't) completely grown out my occasional brazen remarks and behaviour, I see this period as having a net positive effect on me, as I had never before ventured so continuously outside of my shell.

Completely by chance, I discovered that I have a sort of flair for photography, which was another major spirit-lifter, and nicely complemented my urges to get out and socialise more, especially when it came to consuming local live music. This led me to dipping my toes into local music and political scenes, to the point where I'm starting to feel I might be becoming a part of them. I performed at Vitamin S a few times, improvising, experimenting and exploring sounds with other randomly selected performers. After one of my performances there, I was approached by an impressed Andrew McMillan, who organises Vitamin S, and encouraged me to perform at a gig of my own at The Audio Foundation, which he would curate. This recording is of that eventuating gig.
